Piles rehabilitation of Merritt Island and Pineda Causeways in Florida

Project Details:
Being submitted to the abrasive action of the salt water, the concrete of the Merritt Island and Pineda Causeways piles has degraded rapidly, allowing this chloride ions charged water to infiltrate the concrete and cause the corrosion of the steel rebar, accelerating even more the deterioration of the piles. Both projects presented here saw a sacrificial shotcrete being applied to the most critically exposed areas of these piles. To avoid a reoccurrence of the corrosion of the steel reinforcement, the engineers and owner have decided to use the V-ROD technology, a glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) concrete reinforcing bar, that will never corrode...
